Arbicor-Plus®, the latest pharmaceutical innovation from Cobel Darou, introduces a novel therapeutic solution within the esteemed Arbicor® product family. Compared to administering its active ingredients separately, Arbicor-Plus® improves blood pressure control by up to 20%. Furthermore, it significantly reduces the risk of damage to the coronary arteries by 40% and decreases the incidence of cerebrovascular events by 54%.1

The Silent Threat of Hypertension

Hypertension is a primary risk factor for the development of cardiovascular diseases. In adults, normal blood pressure is clinically defined as being below 120/80 mmHg. According to a Spring 2022 (Bahar 1401) report published by the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Department of the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, over 18 million adults in Iran are currently suffering from high blood pressure.2

Commenting on the launch of this new medication, Dr. Amir Hashemi, CEO of Cobel Darou, stated:

“By expanding the Arbicor® therapeutic family, Cobel Darou strives to play a highly effective role in improving blood pressure management, while simultaneously mitigating the risks of coronary artery damage and cerebrovascular events for our patients.”

Beyond elevating the risk of coronary artery disease and stroke by 1.5 to 2 times, hypertension ranks as the fourth leading cause of mortality in the country, responsible for over 29,000 deaths annually in Iran. These staggering statistics double the necessity and importance of prioritizing high blood pressure control.3-5

The Challenge of Treatment Adherence

Achieving target blood pressure through monotherapy (the use of a single drug) is unfeasible for over 70% of hypertensive patients. Consequently, effective management of this condition requires a combination of two or more antihypertensive agents from distinct pharmacological classes. On the other hand, poor treatment adherence—often driven by high pill burdens and complex dosing frequencies—increases cardiovascular risks in nearly half of the individuals diagnosed with hypertension.3

Arbicor-Plus® is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) of Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide formulated into a single pill, offering vastly superior convenience compared to taking these compounds separately. Due to its enhanced efficacy and rapid action, it can improve blood pressure control rates by up to 20%.

Clinical studies demonstrate that utilizing single-pill combination therapies can boost treatment adherence by 39% and increase the proportion of patients achieving controlled blood pressure by 23%.4 Moreover, managing hypertension with a multi-drug combination protocol reduces the probability of coronary artery damage by 40% and cerebrovascular events by 54%.

Mechanism of Action

Having previously pioneered the domestic production of Telmisartan in Iran under the brand name Arbicor®, Cobel Darou is now making Arbicor-Plus®—the newest addition to this family—available to patients.

Alongside Telmisartan, which induces vasodilation and utilizes its extended half-life to provide stable, 24-hour blood pressure control (particularly crucial during nighttime sleep and early morning hours), this medication incorporates Hydrochlorothiazide. Hydrochlorothiazide functions as a diuretic, aiding in blood pressure reduction by promoting the excretion of water and salt through urine. Remarkably, these profound clinical efficacies are achieved with just a single tablet per day.5

Arbicor-Plus® is officially approved by the Iran Food and Drug Administration (IFDA) and is currently available as a prescription-only (Rx) medication in pharmacies nationwide.
