For the first time, Dr. Abidi Pharmaceuticals has introduced the innovative drug Finerenone, under the brand name Miqlon®, to the medical community, diabetic patients suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), and patients with Heart Failure. This medication represents a significant step forward in the management and prevention of severe diabetic complications, such as the progression of renal and cardiovascular diseases.

Seyed Amir Razavian, CEO of Dr. Abidi Pharmaceuticals, highlighted the importance of patient access to novel therapies, stating: “The addition of Miqlon® to the country’s therapeutic portfolio is part of our ongoing commitment to developing innovative solutions for chronic and high-risk diseases. By facilitating access to state-of-the-art treatments, we strive to concurrently preserve the heart and kidney health of patients—especially those living with diabetes.”

Chronic Kidney Disease is one of the most prevalent and serious complications of diabetes. According to statistics, approximately 30% of diabetic patients experience some degree of kidney damage over their lifetime. If not diagnosed and treated promptly, this damage can lead to advanced kidney failure, ultimately resulting in dialysis or kidney transplantation. Furthermore, CKD is not merely a renal issue; it significantly elevates the risk of mortality associated with cardiovascular complications, such as myocardial infarction and heart failure. Consequently, this disease poses a silent yet severe threat to diabetic patients, making early and appropriate diagnosis and intervention absolutely critical.

As a modern alternative to older-generation medications, Miqlon®, with its selective mechanism of action, can help mitigate the sustained decline in kidney function, reduce the likelihood of progressing to advanced stages of kidney failure, and decrease the incidence of cardiovascular events, such as myocardial infarction or hospitalization due to heart failure.

In simple terms, Miqlon® helps preserve kidney health in diabetic patients for a more extended period while simultaneously lowering the risk of life-threatening cardiovascular complications. Therefore, this medication can serve as a vital component in the integrated care and treatment of diabetic patients with CKD.

Heart Failure (HF) is also one of the most severe cardiovascular diseases and a leading cause of mortality worldwide, affecting not only diabetic patients but also the non-diabetic population. Miqlon®—featuring the active pharmaceutical ingredient Finerenone—is the first non-steroidal medication approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of these patients. It is highly effective in reducing the risk of cardiovascular events in a specific subset of heart failure patients with an ejection fraction (the Percentage of blood volume pumped out of the ventricle with each beat) equal to or greater than 40%.

Among the most significant clinical benefits of utilizing Miqlon® in patients with heart failure are the reduced risk of recurrent hospitalizations due to heart failure and a decreased probability of cardiovascular events, including heart attacks. Furthermore, it aids in reducing cardiac inflammation and fibrosis, improving structural cardiac function, stabilizing hemodynamic status, and preventing the progression of heart failure.

Alongside standard therapies and without disrupting the patient’s existing treatment regimen, Miqlon® can be prescribed not only for diabetic patients with kidney failure but also for a broad spectrum of heart failure patients. It functions as a critical element of “comprehensive and preventive management” to safeguard the heart and kidney health of high-risk patients—an approach that simultaneously enhances patients’ quality of life and alleviates the economic burden on the healthcare system.
