Dr. Abidi Pharmaceuticals has manufactured and launched Bilastine under the brand name Ziveria® to control the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial) and urticaria (hives) in adults and adolescents aged 12 and older. With once-daily dosing and minimal sedative effects, Ziveria® significantly improves the quality of life for individuals suffering from allergic diseases.

Ziveria® (generic name: Bilastine) belongs to the second-generation antihistamine class, functioning through the selective inhibition of peripheral H1 receptors. Ziveria® tablets are administered once daily and require no dosage adjustment in the elderly or in patients with renal or hepatic impairment. According to medical recommendations, Ziveria® tablets should be taken one hour before or two hours after consuming food or fruit juices.

Rhinitis is one of the most common allergic diseases, with estimates suggesting that, on average, 20% of the Iranian population is affected by this condition. This disease is triggered by the immune system’s reaction to certain allergens (such as airborne allergens). In addition to presenting nasal symptoms (e.g., runny nose, sneezing, and nasal itching) and ocular symptoms (e.g., watery and itchy eyes), it can severely impact an individual’s sleep quality. Urticaria is another common skin disorder characterized by intense itching; it occurs due to the release of histamine from immune cells and can manifest in either acute or chronic forms.

Ziveria® tablets operate with minimal penetration across the blood-brain barrier (BBB); consequently, they lack significant sedative effects. Unlike Terfenadine and high doses of Diphenhydramine, Bilastine—the active ingredient in Ziveria®—maintains its safety and efficacy even at doses higher than the standard therapeutic dose, with no adverse effects on cardiac conduction. Furthermore, during long-term use of this medication, no evidence of tachyphylaxis (a decrease in response to the drug following repeated administration) has been reported, even over extended treatment periods of up to 52 weeks.
